Sunset Lake Villa
Sunset Lake Villa is a lovely and inviting vacation home situated in a peaceful and relaxed area within Rotonda West, Englewood on Florida's Gulf Coast near Boca Grande.
The oversized lanai and re-landscaped gardens enjoy day long sunshine. Sunset over the lake floods the great room with light. Watching the local wildlife and relaxing over drinks at the still end of the day is simply perfect!
The Villa has three large bedrooms and two bathrooms with the Master Bedroom having its own private sitting area. The villa enjoys a light and airy feel, a perfect setting for your vacation.
The Villa is a short drive away from the inviting waters and white beaches that stretch forever along the Gulf Coast. It lies within Rotonda’s Golfing Community with 5 courses close by and others in close vicinity.
When you visit Rotonda, you discover a part of Florida that is off the beaten path - unhurried, unspoiled and uncrowded. This region is often called “the gem of the Suncoast,” and when you visit Rotonda on Cape Haze Peninsula, you will discover the reason.
Rotonda is one of the small, delightful communities located on the Cape Haze Peninsula in Charlotte County in the south Gulf Coast of Florida. This is a tranquil area of unspoiled natural beauty and a rich history.
Cape Haze Peninsula is approximately 100 miles south of Tampa, between the cities of Sarasota and Punta Gorda. It rests on the waters of the Myakka River and Lemon Bay. Known for its diversity, it includes the other unique communities of El JoBean, Cape Haze and Englewood each with its own distinct flavour. Beautiful white sand beaches provide sunbathing, swimming and beachcombing. Golfing, tennis, hiking, biking, boating, fishing and other watersports are available in Rotonda.
Rotonda is a residentially developed wildlife sanctuary of approximately 20,000 acres. The residential developments, including Rotonda West, wind through golf courses and the freshwater canals dredged to form the land. A quiet community, its thirty-five hundred or so residents fish, play golf and enjoy its natural settings and serenity.
Rotonda West is just a short 15 minutes drive from the beach side town of Englewood on the Gulf Coast of Florida, often referred to as "Florida's Best Kept Secret". Ideally situated for those who wish to explore the tranquil and spectacular west coast beaches. Visitors can easily tour the Southwest Florida cities of Port Charlotte, Punta Gorda, Venice, Fort Myers, Naples, Tampa, St. Petersburg and Sarasota Sanibel and Captiva, Cape Coral, Fort Myers and Fort Myers Beach by car.
The villa is on a quiet cul-de-sac parallel to the first hole of Pine Valley Golf course.
Within the Rotonda Community, Pine Valley Golf Course forms the latest part of the 27 hole White Marsh Golf Club, itself one of Rotonda’s 5 golf courses. Another of these, The Hills, is the venue for active Social events that you are welcome to attend. The folks are friendly.
There are even more excellent golf courses nearby, 3 more within 5 miles. That makes 8 on your doorstep! The owner’s clubs, his and hers are available for your use.
A 15-minute drive to Port Charlotte with its large air-conditioned indoor shopping mall with all the favourite American Chain Stores such as Macy’s, JC Penny, Bealls, Sears and Dillard’s. Many other smaller outlets have stores in this area and there is a good choice of eateries in the neighbourhood too.
Just over the Myakka River is the historic city of Punta Gorda where you will find art galleries, boutiques and antique shops along the main shopping street. Fisherman’s Village is also home to some very interesting smaller local outlets and restaurants overlooking the water.
30 minute drive north of Rotonda along the 776 then the 41 towards Sarasota you will arrive in Venice. Its exquisite boutiques, galleries and outlets of Venice are always worth a visit. Further north off the I-75 exit 224 towards Sarasota you’ll find the popular Ellenton Outlet mall and the newer and grander University Town Centre Mall off exit 213 less than a 1-hour drive from Rotonda.
One of Southwest Florida’s main attractions has to be the beautiful beaches. Charlotte County and the surrounding areas have a wonderful array of beach locations for you to choose from, the quiet and remote island retreats, the activity beaches where water sports are on offer, or the popular swimming beaches along Manasota Key.
Here are two of our favourites, there are many more within a short drive from Sunset Lake Villa. Englewood Beach is the closest beach to Rotonda and is situated on Manasota Key, a 7-mile long Barrier Island stretching all the way up to Venice. The Gulf side of the Island is blessed with one of the best beaches in the area. Shops, restaurants and barbecue facilities are close by.
For those who want seclusion a walk along the nature trail from Stump Pass Beach car park takes you to the south end of the Island overlooking the pass. To the north is Blind Pass with another lovely stretch of sand to enjoy. The car parking there is free. Gasparilla Island South of Boca Grande on Gulf Boulevard you will come to the wonderful beach areas, Sand Spur Beach, Sea Grape Beach, South Beach and Lighthouse Beach (named after the historic wooden lighthouse, now a museum and well worth a visit).
There is a restaurant at South Beach overlooking the Gulf of Mexico. This is a great spot for lunch or an evening meal.
Choices are endless when it comes to good restaurants in the area. Whatever you feel like eating, a suitable eatery will not be far away. For example, Beyond the Sea, Lakeview, Nicola’s Italian Kitchen and the Lickity Split Café are all on S McCall Road, Johnny Leverock’s south on Placida Road at Palm Island Marina is also a great fish restaurant.
Take a pleasant water taxi trip across to Palm Island to Rum Bay Restaurant. The upmarket and chic town of Boca Grande has many renowned restaurants; Temptations and The Pink Elephant are popular. The Outlet at the Inlet is very nice for either breakfast or lunch. We hear good things about Loons on a Limb there too.
South Beach restaurant towards the southern end of Boca Grande is wonderful for its hospitality, menu choice and, lest we forget, position! Situated right on the beach, this restaurant is another very popular destination for locals and, once you have re-fuelled, there is nothing better than taking a stroll along the beach (preferably, shoes off, in the surf) to walk off the calories!
Saturday Night Cruising on Dearborne Street On the first Saturday each month the local cruising club meet up on Dearborne Street. Vintage and Classic cars line both sides of the street. Meet the owners and take a trip down “Memory Lane”. Also gift shops and antique stores are open to browse through. Restaurant Entertainment Lookout for who is on where especially at the weekends.
One of our favourites is Lakeview off McCall Road a couple of hundred yards to the west of the Junction with Gasparilla Road. It has an Open Mic session on Tuesdays too. Popular with the locals.
Ten Pin Bowling at Treasure Lanes in Port Charlotte Good fun for all the family. Food available. Licensed Bar. Cinema Regal town Centre Multi-screen. For a great Fun Day out visit Sunsplash Water Park on Cape Coral (January onwards). Bull Riding at the Rodeo ground opposite the Charlotte County Stadium where Baseball is played.
The easy ride terrain and network of roads, paths and parks inside Rotonda make for very pleasant cycling and you will see many other cyclists out and about.
We have 4 adult bikes and one childs. Enjoy exploring and watching the wildlife around you.
We have 3 rods & tackle you could take to the pier at Placida where bait can be purchased. Fisherman’s Edge Tackle on Placida Road is our local expert!
Several fishing trips are available on Beach Road & Placida. Organized trips include use of equipment and license.
The area boasts a number of beautiful Parks for the more adventurous and is a great base for getting out and about.
Don Pedro Island is an un-bridged Island to the north of Gasparilla Island. Access is by boat only, making this a fantastic location if you really want a peaceful day! Rest room, shower and barbeque facilities are laid on for your convenience. The beach is pure white sand and is an excellent place for beachcombing. Fossil Sharks Teeth and unusual shells are a common find.
One hour north lies Myakka River State Park which is a must see attraction. To the south there is Sanibel Island, another popular place to visit. Rotonda West has its own Nature Reserve so you are seldom far from Florida’s greenery and abundant wild-life. Herons, egrets, wood-stork and even ospreys and bald eagles have been seen fishing here.
All along the Gulf coast there is a natural world that will keep you enthralled and active if you are into photography. All the photos on the website were captured by the owner.
"Just a note of thanks and appreciation. I can't tell you how happy I was when I first entered your home and looked around! We had a wonderful vacation and loved staying at your house and felt very blessed to be celebrating the holidays here. It was so very comfortable and had every amenity. We really appreciated all of the extras you provided. I swam every day and rode the bikes on multiple occasions. We had a great time using the shark tooth finder and found several of them at different beaches. We appreciated the restaurant guides and beach guides too. I used them repeatedly and found them very helpful. Really appreciate your attention to details. You really thought of everything!!! Your kindness is truly appreciated. The time here will leave us with precious memories." - Mary Ann
"This is a fabulous house and a wonderful location. At the end of our vacation we did not want to leave, it is so comfortable and finished to a very high standard. The house is ideally situated with an oversized deck and lanai, west facing and overlooking the lake and golf course. This is a house of exceptional quality; the owner really has thought of everything, there is nothing more you will need to ensure you have a wonderful vacation. We can’t wait to make a return visit.” - Carol and Paul
"Stayed for 6 weeks and enjoyed every minute. When we arrived the house was spotless and welcoming. We have spent many days in the Lanai bird watching. To our delight the Alligator swam by on warm days plus the sunsets were gorgeous. It is a quiet, peaceful yet interesting setting. We have enjoyed this beautiful, restful spot so much we are sorry to leave. Next year we are staying for 3 months." - David and Catherine
“It is always with some sadness that we leave Rotonda each time we vacation here. Our experience sharing your villa this year has been as enjoyable as the best of the past 15 years plus! It has been a delight to stay in your well appointed and tastefully decorated house. Thank you for letting us use it for the past four weeks. We have all had a very comfortable, relaxing and super holiday! Blighty (UK) will feel somewhat different when we return to low 50 degrees F compared to 80 in the pool here." - Ray & Val and Mike & Dot
“The home was absolutely fabulous and met all our needs. Loved the location as it was central to all of the things we wanted to do. We spent many hours in the pool, reading and lounging. We cooked out several nights and enjoyed the Seafood available in the area. On our next visit we will be sure to enjoy the local golf courses." - Don and Sara
“The villa was excellent, very clean and tidy and the pool was warm and the area around the pool was spacious. I loved the bikes and went out every day for some exercise. It was very peaceful.” - Keith
"We are so looking forward to revisiting Sunset Lake Villa on Rotonda, Florida. This house is well located overlooking a lake and green of Long Marsh Golf Course. Inside is a real home from home, beautifully furnished and so well equipped. I wish that my kitchen at home had so many gadgets and labour saving devices as this one. The owners have catered for so many outdoor interests and hobbies like golfing, cycling and angling. The real joy for us was the lanai. After all the daily activity what could be better than to relax on one of the sumptuous loungers with a long, cool drink and watch the sun set. Magical." - Ann and Andy
"We had the most relaxing time at Sunset Lake. It is by far the best equipped and most beautifully presented holiday home we have ever stayed in. The villa is extremely spacious, and well laid out. We spent lots of time relaxing by the pool, playing board games that the host have supplied, and cooking in the nicely designed kitchen. The hosts have done a great job of providing lots of information about local places of interest in the villa. We would highly recommend Captain Jack's Fishing Charter, if you're lucky you might bring home you dinner - which they will fillet for you. There's plenty of places to go for dinner. For a delicious healthy option we loved Mango Bistro. On more that one evening we drove to the beach at Gasparilla Island and ate at the South Beach Restaurant. And for something fun we enjoyed Flounders restaurant and Tiki Bar. We look forward to going back to the villa with our parents and our children for family holiday!" Fiona and Jamie
